The last check mark on our travel list of India was to see the Himalayan Mountains that separate India and Nepal. We flew to Bagdogra, enjoyed riding the 1880 toy train, staying in the historic Elgin Hotel, and seeing the sun rise over Mount Kanchenjunga at 5:30 am from Tiger Hill. It was truly a wonderful last trip in India and a very positive way to leave India. The people of the Darjeeling look very Nepalese/Chinese and are very friendly and appreciate what they have instead of begging on the streets. It was great to be able to go somewhere and not have people pulling on your arm for money. We thoroughly enjoyed the markets of Darjeeling and drinking pot after pot of the best tea we have ever tasted in our lives. It goes down so smooth and is grown in the mountains around Darjeeling. The air was fresh and crisp, which is a far cry from our dusty Delhi life. We have concluded that Kerala is still number one in our travels of India, but Darjeeling is coming in second. A beautiful getaway that doesn't feel like you are in India. 10 days and our adventure ends!
