Word Power

In the process of learning a new language one runs across words that have different meanings. As you can see in the picture, here are two of my favorite examples between English and German. Word Power!

First, the word Pickel in German means zit or pimple. It is truly one of my favorite German words because I laugh everytime Ben says "Jodi you have a pickel on your face." I purposely bought this new German face cream because it says Anti-Pickel...ha!

Second, is the brand Dusch Das. Dusche in German means shower. This is an old favorite because my dad saw Ben's shower gel (Dusch Das)in my shower in Cincinnati and thought that it was mine. You know what I mean =) I had to explain the meaning in German.

The Beautiful Rhein River

This weekend I had a wonderful experience seeing the Rhein River from above. Normally when I see the Rhein I'm already in the valley and looking up at the castles. Yesterday I saw Lorely straight on and enjoyed all the scenic overviews that Ben's friends Stefan and Danielle took me to see. We did a bit of geocaching along the way and ended up in the city of Koblenz. A wonderful city just 30 minutes from Simmern where they live. We spent the evening with a German/French friend eating French cheese & salami, drinking French wine, and enjoying beautiful olives and sun dried tomatoes. The three biggest things that I miss in India (cheese, meat, and wine)I savored in one evening. German Riesling in late harvest is usually the sweetest and my preferred wine, but last night I experienced French Monbazillac. MMM! It is a white wine and is already on my shopping list. This morning we checked out the German Corner where the Mosel and Rhein meet in Koblenz. The rivers are both out of their banks and flooding as high snow fall this past month and three days of rain this week sent the water flowing. A wonderful weekend in Koblenz and today celebrating my future sister in law's birthday. 9 cakes for 30 people ended up being plenty as you can see by the yummy afternoon buffet. Tomorrow we are off to another party for Ben's grandfather's 90th Birthday in Soergenloch. I'm a party animal!
